Gary Johnson – Director

Gary Johnson, OTR/L, MSOT, MBA is the Director of Hand Therapy Services for Athletico Physical Therapy.  With a career in healthcare and rehabilitation, Gary has worked in multiple settings as an Occupational Therapist from acute care to pediatrics, long term care to outpatient settings, but the majority of his career has been focused on industrial rehabilitation for the hand and upper extremity working for a variety of occupational health organizations. After completing his MBA with a concentration in Healthcare Administration, he joined Athletico in Oak Brook, IL.  He now leads a team of Occupational and Physical Hand Therapists across the country for Athletico. Outside of work, Gary is family-focused and enjoys spending quality time and traveling with his wife Shauna and three children Eleanor, Colette, and Gary Shepherd (aka Shep). Shep is the youngest Johnson family member (and best dancer) and lives with Down Syndrome. Shep has inspired the entire Johnson family to be part of the support, change, and advocacy for the entire Down Syndrome community – locally, nationally, and globally when possible.  True to the Occupational Therapy motto, Gary is focused on helping all people live life to their fullest, giving back to his community, and advocating to for all people’s abilities versus limiting them to their inabilities.
