Collection, Use and Security of Personal Information

The National Association for Down Syndrome (“NADS”) respects an individual’s right to keep certain Personal Information private. Likewise, NADS values the need to collect and use Personal Information which will enable it to effectively deliver products and services to people with Down syndrome, as well as their families and supporters. This Privacy Policy applies to activities of NADS and additionally to persons visiting NADS’ website, signing up for NADS publications and mailings, or entering into transactions with NADS, and covers the collection, use, storage and disclosure of information and data as described in this Privacy Policy.

NADS will collect Personal Information on an individual only if the individual provides the information to NADS. NADS also may collect information about a person who has been referred to the website to send them emails regarding NADS’s efforts and activities. If a person donates to NADS, NADS may collect sensitive Personal Information such as the donor’s credit card number, card type, expiration date and keep a record of the financial transaction.

NADS may collect Demographic Information it obtains from individuals and third parties for fund raising purposes and to notify persons of NADS programs, events, and upcoming meetings.

“Personal Information” is demographic information which identifies a specific individual with a minimal degree of effort. Demographic Information includes name, address, city and other similar information. “Transactional Information” is data collected on an individual based on the individuals’ interactions with NADS, which may include sensitive information such as credit card information.

When an individual provides Personal Information to NADS, NADS may use the Personal Information for its programs and fund raising.

NADS will disclose all information as required by law. NADS will make every effort to discontinue the use of an individual’s Personal Information as soon as practicable if requested by that individual. NADS may need to retain Information in its archives and records to comply with law, resolve disputes, analyze problems, assist with any investigations, enforce NADS’ policies, and take other actions otherwise permitted or required by law.

NADS will take reasonable and appropriate measures to keep Personal Information confidential and in a secure environment, including taking appropriate action in the event of unauthorized disclosure. Access to Personal Information will be restricted to only those personnel with a legitimate business purpose. NADS owns all Personal Information provided to it by individuals and collected in accordance with this Policy. However, permission is required before NADS discloses Personal Information to a third party.

NADS must obtain parental consent for use of photographs of minors which are submitted by a parent or guardian of the minor(s). Once consent is obtained, NADS may use the photographs of minors in any of its publications (print, web, social media, etc.). Download Photo Release Form >

NADS takes photographs during public events and occasionally selects such photos for distribution. Since such photos are taken in public settings during public events, NADS may use these photographs in any of its publications (print, web, social media, etc.).
