“Where there is charity and wisdom, there is neither fear nor ignorance.”
FRANCIS OF ASSISI

DuPage Family Disability Network (DFDN)

Wednesday, September 19, 2012
Open Board Meeting
Lisle Library
Lisle, IL 60532
7pm to 9pm

DFDN is pleased to present information ON:

Housing is perhaps one of our most daunting concerns when we are
supporting a young adult with disabilities. It is clear we cannot count on the government. As parents , guardians, self advocates, we have to be inventive, creative, outside the box thinkers with housing just like we have faced all the other challenges. We have to use our own social capital to make the housing a reality.

DuPage Family Disability Network is proud to open our fall season with two very creative and supportive housing models.

LArche is an international housing movement started by Jean Vanier in 1964. It joins people with and without disabilities to live together in a supportive community. It honors the gifts and strengths of each individual in the home.

Alex Conroy Baig is the executive director of the Oak Park LArche. She will talk about the philosophy of LArche as well as the structure. A person who calls the Oak Park LArche home, will also be available to provide insight and information .

After decades of ministering to the spiritual needs of people with
disabilities, College Church of Wheaton listened to a call to invest in
housing.

Dawn Clark is the director at College Church. She will describe how her model works as well as some of the challenges faced by this effort. Joining Dawn will be resident to talk about his positive experience.

With projected waiting list for scarce housing opportunities DFDN feels this grass roots movement needs to expose our community to all possibilities.
